This is Joy, Emily Materick's mod-erific mama on a London train in the late 60's . This is NOT Emily Materick's father...But he sure seems sweet on her.
Emily's mom was a heartbreaker with her own hand-made style. "She sewed her own mini dresses and had all the most stylish hairpieces. She lived in England for a bit then came back to Toronto to open a coffeehouse that featured traditional pub food like Ploughman’s Lunch, accompanied by live folk music. "
This is the lucky dad who landed Joy. What did it take to win her heart? Probably a hit song or two.
"She got married at Toronto City Hall, it was a very simple ceremony. My dad, singer Ray Materick, was playing a gig that night and they had a reception at the Chelsea Hotel another day."
On a personal note: That is the dress I want to get married in. Also that is the beard I want my future, not-yet-discovered husband to the have the hormonal ability to grow. Get on it, guy.
