MOMMY LONG LEGS
When I was about 2 years old, and about 1 foot nothing, I saw two of the tallest people in the world. Circa 1980. It's one of my earliest memories: The woman was leaning on the man's shoulder and they must have been wearing platform shoes and high-waisted bellbottoms which I thought were permanant fixtures of their bodies. And they were laughing-- I assume about being tall. I remember marking the moment by thinking the words: "those are the tallest people I will ever see." I now stand corrected.
In 1976, Corie Scarpaci's mom Donna, at left, and her matching friend from Arkansas may as well have been wearing stilts under their stove-pipe white bellbottoms. High-waisted, you say? No, they skid past waist level head straight for sub-boob region. I have no idea their exact heights but there's something about pants of that era that make your body look like one long hot leg. If they're not doing anything tonight, I would like to set the two of them up with the Yellow Submarine version of the Beatles. Just for a nice evening on a boat on a river...
