The Newlywed

In memory of my mom, Audrey Cain,
Here she is on her honeymoon in Miami Beach, Florida in 1953. I always loved looking through pictures of my Mom when she was in her 20's. The beautiful satin dresses, her hair short but always beautifully styled, her earrings, her pearl necklaces, her beautiful smile. I never got the chance to tell my Mom how beautiful I thought she was. Even in her 60's she meticulously covered her grey, was always stylishly dressed and perfectly accessorized. My mother taught me to wear things that made me feel pretty, and it was her voice in my head that told me that it was OK to wear the purple silk blouse to my father's funeral, because it made me feel good. To this day if I can't decide what to wear, I ask my mother for help, and I start my day hoping she thinks I look pretty.
